When the Scouts opened their first season in the NHL, the goaltending position appeared least prone to short-run change. With Denis Herron's arrival to Kansas city, the team's fromt office and the fans were happy those thoughts were short-lived. The nimble flip-flopping netminder saw action in 22 Scouts games and was spectacular in the club's most impressive win, a 3-2 victory over the high-flying Bruins in Boston on January 35, 1975.
Denis also started his NHL career with a flash. In his first two league games he posted back-to-back shutouts with Pittsburgh in his rookie season. To help bear the demanding load of being a no. 1 goalie for Kansas City, the team medical staff tried to put some extra weight on him during the summer. A high protein calorie diet that included up to eight milk shakes a day was ordered. It didn't work...
