Hardy signed his first NHL contract professional contract with the New York Rangers May, 1077, after an outstanding career in Sweden. He hails from Skelleftea, a city of about 70 000 population in Northern Sweden, where he played in 1978-79. Hardy was very popular with his teammates, he has a whimsical sence of humour, participating in locker room practical jokes. An agile, acrobatic type of goaltender who recovers quickly after a sprawling save, good glove hand. He shared goaltending duties on 1976-77 Swedish National Team during 1977 World Championship in Vienna with Québec Nordiques' Goran Hogosta. The Swedish Team went on to capture the Silver Medal as a second-place finisher in World Tourney. His first pro game was with the New York Rangers, Febuary 25, 1978, a 6-3 win in Montréal against the Canadiens wich ended Canadiens' 28-game unbeaten streak - then an NHL record. He wears conventional fiberglass molded facemask instead of "birdcage" style mask often used by European goaltenders. On off-season, he likes to play ping-pong to sharpen reflexes. Hobbies are carpentry, fishing and soccer. Maried to wife Eve, with 3 children (2 girls and a boy) Veronica, Johanna and Patrik.
