- Toronto Maple leafs' Curtis Joseph passed Hall of Famer Billy Smith and took the sole possession of the 15th place on the all-time win record, posting his 306th career win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

- San Jose Sharks' Evgeby Nabokov has been named NHL Player of the Week for the period of Monday, January 22 through Sunday, January 28. Nabokov posted a 2-0-1 record with a 1,30 GAA and a .947 save percentage

- The Calgary Flames signed goaltender Mike Vernon to a one year contract extension
- The New York Islanders recalled goaltender Rick DiPietro from the Chicago Wolves of the IHL
January 24, 2001 :
- The St.Louis Blues recalled goaltender Dwayne Roloson from the Worcester Ice cats of the AHL
- The Chicago Black hawks assigned goaltender Jeff Maund and recalled goaltender Michel Larocque from the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL
January 23, 2001 :
- The St.Louis Blues placed goaltender Brent Johnson on the injured reserved list. Johnson twisted his knee and is expected back on a day-to-day basis
January 19,2001 :
- The Nashville Predators extended the contract of goaltender Tomas Vokoun. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
January 18,2001 :
- New York Rangers' goaltender Mike Richter earned his 267th victory, passing Ed Giacomin's record as the Rangers' All-Time wins leader.
January 17, 2001 :
- The New York Islanders named Mike Palmateer as their goaltending coach
- The Philadelphia Flyers assigned goaltender Neil Little to the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL
- The NHL anounced the final roster for the World Team at the NHL All-Star game. Dominik Hasek is the winner of the popular vote and will start the game. He will be joined by 2 rookies in Roman Cechmanek and San Jose Sharks' Evgeny Nabokov
- The Carolina Hurricanes assigned goaltender Tyler Moss to the Cincinnati Cyclones of the IHL and recalled Jean-Marc Pelletier
January 16, 2001 :
- The Philadelphia Flyers recalled goaltender Neil Little from the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL
- The NHL anounced that Colorado Avalanche's Patrick Roy will start for team North America at the 2001 NHL All-Star game. Phoenix' Sean Burke will play in his second All-Star game ant they will be joined by Devils' Martin Brodeur who will make his 5th appearance
January 15, 2001 :
- The Tampa Bay Lightning activated goaltender Kevin Weekes from the injured list and assigned goaltender Dieter Kochan to the Detroit Vipers of the IHL
- The Chicago Black hawks recalled goaltender Jeff Maund and assigned goaltender Michel Larocque to the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL
- Flyers' Roman Cechmanek was named the NHL Player of the Week. Cechmanek went 3-0-0 with a 0.66 GAA, a .973% save percentage with one shutout

- The Edmonton Oilers assigned goaltender Joaquin Gage to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL
